I remember McCarthyism, Vietnam protests, civil rights marches and legislation. Bad times starting out, but good results eventually. Now I’m scared AND angry, because I see democracy slipping away. People now feel it’s okay to dismiss minorities, immigrants, anyone who disagrees and follow up sometimes with violence. The law is ignored by those in power, those who are insatiable for unlimited power, just like any tinpot dictator. People are grabbed off the street and sent off to detainment or deporture, with no forwarding address.
We have to fight in court, at the voting booth (however we vote) pressure media, universities, law firms, everyone, not to give in or give up.
I should be blogging about writing, about creating, instead I’m obsessed with our everyday, worried about what we’re losing, what is going wrong. We have another three and half years before this presidency is over but only a year to the mid-terms. Already trumf is looking to change how we vote so he can control it. We can’t let that happen. If you’re reading this, join a group, make calls, write postcards, march in those protests, everything counts. If enough of us band together, we WILL win.
